Kaptka is developed as an addition to the world of De Wentel. De Wentel is a multiplatform storytelling experience, created by Sytze Schalk, in which the stories of a city called Lida can be experienced through different kinds of media: theater, books, online publications, graphic novels and an interactive card game: Kaptka.
During the different experiences (theater, online publications, Kaptka), the visitors and players can influence the storyline and therefore change the future outcomes of the events in Lida. Do they believe in the propaganda of the king? Or do they join the resistance and fight for a brighter future?
In Kaptka, the player takes the place of a storyteller within the city of Lida. It’s their job to tell the best stories based on the past events of Lida. These stories can be told through different cards, each card representing a small piece of the story (i.e. a person, an occurrence or a location). By piecing these different cards together they can tell either short or long stories, where short stories allow for quick, but fewer points, and long stories allow for a slower approach, but more points. It’s a tradeoff that keeps changing every turn.
Currently the game is only playable as single-player versus CPU, but a future iteration might include a full multiplayer version, with more cards, new game-mechanics and of course, a different storyline.
